Born in 1962 in the Netherlands, I started running and cycling at a very young age. As for most Dutch people, my bike became a virtual part of me. In order to get to school my friends and I had to cycle 5 days a week 12K to and from school. Growing up in a beautiful wooded area in the east of the Netherlands, running through the local forest became soon a wonderful way of living.
As I joined the army at the tender age of 19, I found myself under the wings of a fantastic soldier: Sgt. Christaan Freni, one of my great heroes. His love for sports was an inspiration to me. Unfortunately it was during my time in the military that I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, a debilitating illness during flair-ups. Through sports and mental conditioning, I was able to get a grip of that terrible illness over the years and pushed it into remission. I have been symptom free for many years now.
After my time in the military I decided to buy the local gym in the town where I grew up (‘s-Heerenberg, for anyone interested). That was the beginning of my sports career. I completed courses as Fitness Trainer A & B, Nutritional Coach and Running Coach while managing my gym.
After 6 years, I decided that it was time to see something of the world and traveled extensively, working as a fitness trainer, entertainer and manager for many hotels in Asia and North Africa.
In May 2017 I permanently returned to Europe, where I live now, right on the Swiss/German border, with my wonderful wife Naomi and my daughter Amelia. My sons Max and Moritz visit us regularly in the idyllic town of Hohentengen am Hochrein.
Over the decades I participated in many triathlons, duathlons and running races. I am looking forward to passing on my knowledge to age-group athletes, novice athletes, older athletes and athletes with injuries. Nutritional plans are an integral part of my services.
I speak Dutch, German, English, French and Italian, so language shouldn't be a barrier!
I'm looking forward to meeting you in person or via Skype/WhatsApp.
My approach to coaching can be described as 'athlete orientated'. I put your wishes and needs before anything else. I do adhere, of course, to the IRONMAN standard principles and to a core philosophy of hard work, but within that scope there is plenty of space for your own input.
My own background includes many struggles with injuries, illness and weight issues over the decades. This makes me empathetic for athletes with similar problems.
Communication, patience, kindness and perseverance are words that sum up my view, attitude and method of coaching. If this is appealing to you: do not hesitate to contact me via the form below.
My athletes mean the world to me. Do you have questions or comments about your training? Send me a message, and I will get back to you soon.
